This is a major look for Philadelphia artist and criminal justice reform advocate Meek Mill. Philadelphia has proclaimed March 14, “Meek Mill Day.” Watch as Meek accepts the honor and thanks his city for its continued support. Mill helped to spark a nationwide debate on criminal justice reform after serving time in prison for a probation violation that many saw as unjust and extreme. At the time Jay-Z responded to the sentence with the following statement:

“The sentence handed down by the Judge — against the recommendation of the Assistant District Attorney and Probation Officer — is unjust and heavy-handed,” he wrote. “We will always stand by and support Meek Mill, both as he attempts to right this wrongful sentence and then in returning to his musical career.”
