Born Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, Chance The Rapper had early hip hop aspirations. With his head in the clouds, Chance turned his 10-day suspension during his senior year in high school into productive time creating his first mixtape, “10 Day.” His second mix tape  in 2012 caught the attention of Forbes’ magazine and Childish Gambino who asked the Chicago native to open for him on his North American Tour. Gambino was also featured on Chance’s following mix tape “Acid Raps.” After the success of these mix tapes and a performance at Lollapalooza., Chance grabbed the attention of many major record labels.

Chance passed on a record deal in order to have complete creative control of his career. This didn’t stop him from getting money though. In 2016, Chance signed a deal to release his album “Coloring Book” exclusively with Apple Music for a reported $1 million. “Coloring Book” became the first streaming-only release to land a spot on the Billboard 200 with  streams in the first week of 57.3 million times, (an equivalent to 38,000 units sold). His subsequent tour also brought in big bucks.

Chance is the recipient of 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards for Best New Hip Hop Artist and Best Mixtape. In 2017 he won three Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album. That same year, he also won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Male Artist. He is also an Emmy nominee for a song he created for Saturday Night Live.

Chance has given back to his Chicago community with many charitable donations.

In addition to profits from album sales and touring, Chance cashes in on festival shows, and endorsements with Dockers, H&M, and more to come. His net worth is sure to rise from $33 million with the release of his second full album.
