Dr. Dre net worth:
Dr. Dre net worth: Dr. Dre is a Gangsta rap pioneer with a net worth of $830 million as of 2017. He first made it big in the 1980s when he produced the hip-hop group Niggaz With Attitude (N.W.A.).
Dr. Dre was born named Andre Romelle Young and comes from a musical background. His parents are both singers. His father, Theodore, belonged to a group called the Romells, where his middle name came from. Dr. Dre’s mother was also part of a group called Four Aces, which she quit even before he was born. He lived with his mother after his parents split and they moved around frequently. He also transferred several schools from Centennial High School to Fremont High School and lastly, to Chester Adult School. However, his interest was in making music instead of giving attention to his coursework.
In Christmas of 1984, Dre received a music mixer that he used to turn his family’s home into his very own studio. It was then when he started to make his own music by taking pieces of various sounds and songs. Dre was able to work the turntables when he started hanging out at the Eve After Dark nightclub in LA. There he joined World Class Wreckin’ Cru in performing at nightclubs. It was also during that time in his life when he developed the Dr. Dre rap persona, the Master of Mixology.
Dre became the leading rap pioneer by first teaming up with various rappers such as Ice Cube, Eazy-E, the Arabian Prince, MC Ren, and Yella. He also worked with The D.O.C. and ultimately formed Niggaz With Attitude in 1985. History was made when N.W.A came on the scene. The new group was able to produce songs that are hard-hitting and explicit which reflected life on the streets of Cali.
The gangsta rap genre took over when N.W.A released their second album, “Straight Outta Compton,”! The year was 1988 and the album sold a staggering 2 million copies.
In 1992, he released a new solo album, “The Chronic,” which reached the top of the hip-hop charts. His second album “2001” was released in 1999 and has sold millions of copies and topped both the pop and hip-hop charts.
Aside from being a successful artist himself, Dr. Dre has also launched several other hip-hop artists. He was the producer for Ruthless Records that he started with Eazy-E. He was also the co-founder of Death Row Records, a rap music empire he started in 1991 with Marion Knight. Not to mention bringing Eminem & 50 Cent to the forefront of Hip-Hop. When it comes to money we would be remiss if we didn’t mention Dre’s success outside of music. Beats headphones, that Dre co-founded with Jimmy Iovine have been a Goliath in the electronics industry. Beats was recently sold to Apple for $3 billion and that folks is one last reason Dre has some serious coin in the bank.
