American rapper and entrepreneur Rick Ross was born William Leonard Roberts II on January 28, 1976 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, U.S.A. He was raised in Carol City, Florida where he finished high school. He attended Albany State University for college on a football scholarship. After graduating, he worked as a correctional officer for roughly eighteen months.
He signed with Suave House Records to launch his debut album under the name Teflon Da Don. Following a minor hit, he changed his name to Rick Ross and was the first artist signed to Sean “Diddy” Combs’s Ciroc Entertainment Management company. His debut album “Port of Miami” topped the Billboard 200 Album Chart and was called “the summer’s biggest rap record” by Rolling Stone magazine. Two years later his second album “Trilla” debuted on top of the Billboard 200 and spawned several hits.
In 2009 he founded the record label Maybach Music Group and released 6 very successful albums through it. He has also appeared on tracks of various artists that were hit songs.
Ross has faced serious health issues including seizures and a drive by shooting. Despite having adopted a healthier lifestyle and loosing weight, Ross owns several fast food restaurants called Wingstop.
