Kendrick Lamar, a favorite artist of former President Barack Obama, has the prestigious honor of becoming the first non-classical or jazz artist to win a Pulitzer Prize for music. The administrator of the intellectual organization said the award “It shines a light on hip-hop in a completely different way. This is a big moment for hip-hop music and a big moment for the Pulitzers.”
The board called Lamar’s album “Damn” “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.” In addition to going down in history, Lamar will receive a $15,000.
Congrats to Lamar for setting the bar. Just remember to continue to be humble.
