Wiz Khalifa Net Worth: $45 – 55 million
“Cameron Jibril Thomaz” was born in North Dakota in 1987 to military parents. He was discovered by Rostrum Records President, Benjy Grinberg, when he heard him in a mixtape. Grinberg offered the then 16-year-old Wiz Khalifa to work on a mixtape for his company. Grinberg believed that although still not fully developed, Wiz Khalifa had the potential to make it big.
In 2006, Wiz released his debut album, “Show and Prove”. While the album was well-received by the public, not much was written about him. Wiz did not mind as this small success lead to a recording deal with Warner Music Group (WMG) in 2007. With WMG, Wiz released the mixtapes “Prince of the City 2” and “Grow Season”. It was not until 2010 when he eventually claimed success. His mixtape “Kush and Orange Juice” was free to download and became a hit on the music charts.
Khalifa really rose to fame in 2011 with “Black and Yellow,” his hit single from the album “Rolling Papers”. The single sold over 3 million copies and hit the number one slot on Billboard’s Hot 100.
In 2015, Wiz grabbed a Grammy for “Best Rap Song” for his single “We Dem Boyz.” This single had 171 million YouTube views. Wiz gives credit to “See You Again”, the single he did with Charlie Puth for the “Fast and the Furious” film soundtrack, as his most popular song. Shortly after the film was released, “See You Again” was at the top of all reputable music charts and was the first rap song to have stayed at number one for 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
The majority of Khalifa’s fortune comes from album sales, concert ticket sales, his YouTube channel’s ad revenue and his Converse endorsement which reportedly gives him an annual income of $500,000. His concerts and tours reportedly earned him over $32 million. While his YouTube channel earns less than a penny per view, his total of over 2 billion views is equivalent to $15 million.
Wiz is also great in merchandising and sales. He sells his branded line of marijuana rolling papers, t-shirts and hoodies in Amazon and other online stores. It was reported that he earns about $5 million from this business endeavor.
Wiz is very open about his being a marijuana proponent and claims to be spending $10,000 on weed every month. This led him to partner with RiverRock Cannabis to produce and market strains of regulated marijuana under the brand name Khalifa Kush.
